Savannah and Tybee Island
Just a brief visit to Savannah, Georgia, but a good one. Southern gothic feels alive and well here. Spanish moss and a foggy night on the salt marsh put me in mind of a hundred different ghost stories. Downtown and in the daylight, Spanish moss continues to add even more atmosphere to the historical architecture. Forsyth Park seems to harken back to a more European philosophy of park design, only minus a hundred metal tables and chairs to be at home on another continent. Heading out to the shore, we stop to explore Fort Pulaski National Monument and hike the trail overlooking its long abandoned lighthouse. Our journey ends with a quiet day at the beach on Tybee Island, surprisingly warm for February but not quite enough for a dip. I think you would have enjoyed it. Wish you were here.
